Sandia Panorama III

Location: New Mexico, Sandia Mountains
Size: 7" x 19-1/2"

When I lived in Albuquerque, I hiked every week in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains. I could actually walk from my house and enter the wilderness in just over an hour! This particular view was in a flatter hiking area, and shows off the panoramic aspect of the urban mountains. Since I had painted this view several times before, I experimented with a synthetic paper called Yupo, that allows the paint to dry very slowly, and for the colors to continue mingling as it dries. To increase the challenge, I didn't draw any part of the landscape ahead of time onto the paper. To see the original version of this painting on regular watercolor paper, please check out my painting "Sandia Panorama II" when you return to the American West Adventure Gallery.
